  We often see some patients complaining of ear itching, ear pain or just ear discomfort in outpatient clinics, and some of them are related to their incorrect ear habits.  1. Don’t dig your ears often: frequent digging will damage the local skin and surface accessory components of the external ear canal, affect the normal outward discharge of cerumen, reduce the defense function of the external ear canal skin, and lead to infection of the external ear canal, forming otitis externa, boils in the external ear canal, eczema, and mycotic infections. In addition, if water enters the external ear canal later, it will expand and compress the local skin and tympanic membrane, leading to pain, tinnitus, ear congestion and hearing loss. In severe cases, frequent ear digging can cause papilloma in the external ear canal.  2. Keep the external ear canal dry and avoid water as much as possible: Especially in summer, excessive moisture and heat can make the keratin layer of the external ear canal skin swell, thus blocking the hair follicles, inhibiting normal cerumen secretion and weakening the killing power and resistance to bacteria. Pay particular attention in the case of otitis media and tympanic membrane perforation, and avoid swimming, etc.  3, correct nose blowing: especially with the cold to pay special attention. It is often seen that people blow their nose by squeezing both nostrils at the same time, which is not right, because our ears are connected to the nasopharynx by a tube, and the simultaneous pressure on the two noses will inevitably lead to backflow of snot, which can easily enter the middle ear through this tube and lead to secretory otitis media, especially in children. The correct posture for blowing the nose is as follows: first press one side and then change the other.  4, plain must quit the bad habit of picking feet: after cutting toenails, hands with scissors must be washed with soapy water, after washing shoes and socks, underwear must be scrubbed with soapy water hands, shoes and socks, feet cloth often shine in the sun. In order to avoid digging the ear with unclean fingers, resulting in fungal infection of the external ear canal and ear itch, usually if the ear itch can be pressed several times on the ear screen, which usually solves the problem, if not, boric acid alcohol ear drops can be used.  5, in addition to the matters that should be noted when doing airplanes: in general, there is not much problem during the ascent of the plane, but during the descent, there are often complaints of severe pain in the ear, discomfort in the ear, examination of the tympanic membrane is congested, can be accompanied by obvious inversion, even petechiae and middle ear fluid exudation, containing bubbles, etc., more serious cases will occur tympanic membrane rupture, then you can hear the sound of explosions in the ear, severe pain, hearing loss, vertigo, nausea, tinnitus and so on. In more severe cases, the tympanic membrane may rupture, which may result in a ruptured ear, severe pain, hearing loss, vertigo, nausea and tinnitus. The main reason is that the eustachian tube is occluded during the descent of the plane, and the middle ear pressure is significantly less than the pressure outside the tympanic membrane, so you must not sleep during the descent of the plane, but repeatedly swallow, yawn, drink, eat, chew gum, or pinch your nose and cheek.  6, suffering from ear disease: diet avoid high sugar, high fat, greasy food, avoid fried goods, less alcohol, less chili, fried, etc., less carbonated drinks, etc. Eczema patients pay attention to avoid seafood allergy-prone food. Eat more cool vegetables and fruits such as loofah, celery, bitter melon, rutabaga, etc. Avoid eating fishy seafood, rooster, goose meat, carp, etc., in case of otitis externa, otitis media, external ear canal boils, etc., and take appropriate amount of vitamins, such as vitamin C, in general.
