Myopic laser correction surgery is not recommended for patients with hypertension when their blood pressure is controlled to a safe level without treatment, as the risk of postoperative hemorrhage is higher than normal.
Hypertension is a systemic disease that jeopardizes the health of small and large blood vessels throughout the body, causing damage to the walls of the blood vessels and increasing their fragility, which tends to increase the risk of bleeding. Patients with high blood pressure who are untreated and have consistently high levels of blood pressure are not recommended to undergo laser corrective myopia surgery immediately.
If the blood pressure of hypertensive patients is not well controlled, during and after the laser myopia correction surgery, the patients are more likely to suffer from bleeding in the eyes and cerebral hemorrhage and other systemic complications.
It is recommended that hypertensive patients should consult the hospital in time to assess their condition and choose the appropriate treatment according to the doctor’s advice.
