Cushing’s syndrome is the most common cause of purple streaks. If a patient has combined manifestations of centripetal obesity, full moon face, acne, elevated blood pressure, menstrual disorders, sexual dysfunction, and muscle atrophy of the extremities in addition to purple lines, Cushing’s syndrome should be considered a possibility.
If the patient does not have the above-mentioned symptoms and signs, but mainly manifests rapid weight or height gain, the condition of increased local skin pressure, such as puberty and excessive obesity, should be considered.
Pregnant women may also develop purple lines due to rapid fetal growth in the abdomen and increased abdominal pressure.
