Must the uterus be removed for adenomyosis?

Treatment of adenomyosis does not necessarily require removal of the uterus, and treatment is determined by these conditions depending on the patient’s age, symptoms and fertility requirements. For patients with milder symptoms, less abdominal pain, and less heavy menstrual flow and with fertility requirements, conservative treatment, such as medication, can be administered orally with progesterone, GnRH-a, and the Manned IUD. Conservative treatment is also available for perimenopausal women who do not have significant symptoms and do not have excessive menstrual flow. For severe symptoms, such as very pronounced and gradually increasing abdominal pain, continuous abdominal pain in addition to menstruation, which has seriously affected the quality of life, a hysterectomy is required. There are also adenomyosis patients with a very large uterus, sometimes as big as four months of pregnancy, when a hysterectomy is also required. Therefore, whether or not to remove the uterus for adenomyosis treatment depends on the patient’s specific situation and also on the changes.
