The carious area can first be treated with a 75% sodium fluoride glycerine paste or 10% silver nitrate and ammoniacal silver nitrate.
If necessary, the carious tissue can be surgically removed and then filled with the chosen restorative material to repair the defective area. Remineralising solutions can also be placed on the affected area to restore the enamel and bone hardness of the tooth. Or the sockets may be filled with resin to act as a preventative measure against the development of caries in the sulcus.
