The difference between dementia with Lewy bodies and dementia with Parkinson’s disease is the time of onset of dementia, which can be differentiated according to the “1-year principle”. In other words, when dementia appears within one year of the onset of Parkinson’s syndrome, it is mostly considered as Lewy body dementia, but if it appears after one year, it is mostly considered as Parkinson’s disease dementia.
