Minor buck teeth can be improved by removing individual teeth and then closing the extraction gap with orthodontic methods to allow the teeth to slowly align, thus driving the overall movement of the alveolar bone. Severe buck teeth cannot be truly corrected by orthodontics alone due to abnormal jaw development, and must be improved with the aid of combined orthodontic-orthognathic treatment. The combined treatment can effectively improve the patient’s severe convex facial shape.
However, it is important to note that the age of surgery should not be too early and should be performed after the jaw development is basically completed (usually 18 years old) to prevent recurrence.
