The physical and psychological damage caused by abortion is enormous, and thousands of women are disabled or even lose their precious lives due to abortion every year. Since abortion has so many physical and psychological hazards, why are “painless abortions” advertised as so easy and safe? First of all, let’s get to know what “painless abortion” is. Painless abortion is an abortion performed on the basis of intravenous anesthesia, that is, an anesthetic (mostly isoproterenol) is given intravenously before the operation begins, and the operation is performed after the patient loses consciousness, so that the patient does not feel pain during the operation. It is because the patient will not feel pain during the procedure that the “painless abortion” advertisements promote “pregnant, do not be afraid, painless abortion help you”. This has led many women with unplanned pregnancies to have the mistaken view that “with painless abortion, they are not afraid of unplanned pregnancies; painless abortion is a minor surgery, so it is the same anywhere”. But this is not the case, let’s understand the illusion that seems to be true. First of all: “Painless abortion is performed in sleep, without harm, and with treatment” Loss of consciousness is not the same as sleep. Some anesthetics can cause patients to experience respiratory depression and even apnea. Some anesthetics also cause patients to hallucinate, and they wake up as if they had a dream, but they often experience dizziness and sometimes a slight pain in the abdomen due to the residual medication. The current anesthesia method has not yet reached the ideal state, so anesthesia accidents still occur from time to time, such as breathing, blood circulation suppression and anesthesia drug allergy. Second: “Painless abortion is a minor surgery, it is the same everywhere” Painless is not the same as no requirement. Painless abortion must be performed in the presence of a licensed anesthesiologist who is proficient in emergency treatment, and must be equipped with cardiac monitoring throughout the procedure, as well as emergency drugs and equipment for breathing, circulation and anti-allergy. Many private clinics or small hospitals may not have these conditions. Finally: “With painless abortion, you will not be afraid of unwanted pregnancy” Painless is not the same as risk-free. Painless abortion is only the administration of anesthesia, which reduces the patient’s pain, but does not reduce the degree of physical damage compared to ordinary abortion. In addition to the risk of anesthesia, there are also certain risks associated with the abortion procedure itself, such as bleeding and even hemorrhaging, as well as perforation of the uterus due to improper surgery. Because it is painless, the surgeon may prolong the operation in order to avoid residue, which increases the chance of endometrial damage and increases the incidence of uterine adhesions, leading to postoperative amenorrhea, reduced menstrual flow, dysmenorrhea and infertility. Therefore, painless abortion should never be done frequently, let alone as a substitute for conventional contraception.
