The whitening around the mole is considered to be an early stage of vitiligo and a special type of vitiligo called halo nevus. The typical presentation of a halo nevus is a central black pigmented nevus surrounded by a circle of hypopigmented patches and the surface hairs turn white. This hypopigmented spot is often more completely depigmented, showing porcelain white like changes, and if looked at under a Wood’s lamp, a chalky fluorescence can be found. The treatment of halo nevus is a bit more specific, the central pigmented nevus needs to be removed, otherwise the efficacy is poor, and then topical treatment with halomethasone ointment and compound kallikrein tincture is sufficient. Therefore, when whitening around a mole is found, you should consult the dermatology department of a public hospital as soon as possible to improve the Wood’s lamp, dermoscopy, skin CT and other examinations before carrying out relevant treatment to avoid delaying the disease.
