Warts are common benign epidermal growths caused by human papillomavirus infection. Warts can be classified clinically as common warts, flat warts, and condyloma acuminata, due to differences in the type of HPV that causes them to occur. However, in the early stages of the disease, the patient develops one or more small papules on the skin, which are sometimes soft or hard. Common warts can appear as hard papules that may slowly become noticeably keratinized. In the case of condyloma acuminatum, the patient will have small, almost skin-colored or light-red papules on the genital surface that are soft.
