What causes chest tightness and shortness of breath after drinking?



Possible causes of chest tightness, shortness of breath and dyspnea after drinking include acute alcohol intoxication, disulfiram-like reaction and aggravation of underlying diseases.

1. Acute alcohol poisoning: drinking too much alcohol at one time, or due to individual specific intolerance to alcohol, vasodilation, tachycardia, chest tightness, dyspnea and so on.

2. Disulfiram-like reaction: Generally, after taking certain drugs such as metronidazole, furazolidone and some cephalosporin antibiotics with side chain of methanethiotetrazole, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, vomiting, chest tightness, breathlessness, and even shock and other reactions appear, which is called disulfiram-like reaction.

3. Exacerbation of underlying diseases: most of them are due to respiratory diseases and cardiovascular diseases, which are aggravated after drinking.
