There are two possibilities for congenital cleft tongue. Its a simple cleft tongue with no other symptoms, which may be a simple dysplasia and usually does not require treatment. There are also certain congenital disorders that may be associated with cleft tongue in addition to the main systemic symptoms, such as Down’s syndrome, which is often associated with cleft tongue, often combined with low intelligence, developmental delay and a peculiar facial appearance.
