Can a periodontal abscess drain itself if it is too uncomfortable?

Periodontal abscesses should not be drained on their own, and if they are drained on their own, secondary infections may occur due to incomplete disinfection of tools and improper treatment after draining, which is even more detrimental to the treatment of periodontal abscesses. When a periodontal abscess appears, the patient should go to a regular hospital dentistry department for incision and drainage so that the pus can be discharged from the drainage port to relieve the inflammation. In the acute stage of periodontal abscess, pulpotomy and drainage should be performed to open the pulp cavity and extract the root pulp to ensure that the root canal is open so that inflammatory material can flow out from the root canal. During the acute suppuration of periodontal abscess, the pus may reach the subperiosteum or submucosa, and an incision should be made in the corresponding apical area of the affected tooth, where the abscess is obvious, for drainage and drainage of pus. In the acute remission period of periodontal abscess, root canal treatment should be performed to thoroughly remove the infected material from the root canal and fill the root canal tightly for permanent treatment. If the periodontal abscess is large, apical scraping can be performed if necessary to eliminate the lesions in the apical region, but only for the upper and lower anterior teeth. In daily life, patients should eat a light diet, avoid cold, spicy and stimulating foods, and pay attention to dental hygiene, use scientific brushing methods to clean teeth and protect gum health.
