The possibility of having red eyes due to conjunctivitis, keratitis and dacryocystitis is relatively high.
1. Conjunctivitis: usually seen in children and adolescents, usually caused by unhealthy habits such as rubbing the eyes, can be treated by antibiotic drops in the eye, such as moxifloxacin eye drops, tobramycin eye drops, etc.
2. Keratitis: it is usually caused by infection of the cornea due to the lowering of the defense barrier after the cornea has been scratched, which also needs to be treated with the antibiotic eye drops mentioned above.
3. Dacryocystitis: caused by bacterial infection of the lacrimal sac located in the subcutaneous tissue of the inner corner of the eye, the purulent secretion formed will flow backward through the lacrimal duct into the conjunctival sac, which will irritate the conjunctival tissues of the eye, thus triggering the redness of the eyes and eye boogers. If necessary, surgery such as tear duct exploration and tear duct placement is needed for treatment.
Red eyes and boogers can be caused by a variety of reasons, and patients should consult an ophthalmologist for a definitive diagnosis and treatment plan.
