Sutra Formula – Pueraria Mirifica Soup

Pueraria Mirifica Tang is composed of four taels of Pueraria Mirifica, three taels of Ephedra (knots removed), two taels of Osmanthus (peeled), two taels of Paeoniae (cut), two taels of Licorice (roasted), three taels of ginger (cut), and twelve jujubes (broken).       Ge Gen Tang is mainly involved in the following three articles in the Treatise on Typhoid and Miscellaneous Diseases: “Treatise on Typhoid and Cold: “When the Sun is ill, the back of the neck is strong for a few minutes, and there is no sweating and bad wind, Ge Gen Tang is the mainstay.”” When the Sun and Yangming are combined, they must be in diarrhea, and Ge Gen Tang is the mainstay.” The Golden Knot: “Sun disease without sweat, urine is less, gas rushes up to the chest, the mouth is silent, want to make just spasm, Ge Gen Tang is the main.” It can be seen that Zhang Zhongjing said that this formula is for the treatment of sun typhoid, downward diarrhea, and spasm. The scope of Ge Gen Tang is much more than that, and it is a good formula for the clinical treatment of many diseases. Today there are many doctors and patients, many good and evil, to ginseng, astragalus, ginseng, ground, gum, mushroom as the most precious, depending on the hemp, cinnamon, attached, pungent, yellow, arsenic for poison. Do not pay much attention to the, so good side, stone sinking into the sea, it is a pity! Today, my clinical experience on Ge Gen Tang is described as follows. Commonly used dose: Pueraria Mirifica 30g, ephedra 10g, cinnamon 10g, peony 10g, roasted licorice 10g, ginger 15g, jujube 12. Depending on the disease, the dosage of each drug should be increased or decreased appropriately. However, the types of drugs should be added and not reduced. Indications for use: Clinical indications include ① fever, headache, cold, no sweating. (2) contracted pain in the neck, shoulder and back, and (3) floating and strong pulse as the main points of evidence. This formula is suitable for people who are healthy, strong and muscular. Note: This formula is mainly used to treat acute febrile diseases, where the patient must have vicious cold and fever, but it is also commonly used to treat non-febrile miscellaneous diseases such as chronic headache, sinusitis, frozen shoulder, etc. At this time, it is not necessary to have both fever and vicious cold. Try to use the original formula, with the evidence can be appropriate to add drugs, do not demolish the original formula. This formula should be used with caution for those who are thin and sweaty. The decoction should be cut and broken before decoction, as ginger should be chopped and jujube should be peeled and pitted. Take it warm and take it with a slight resemblance of sweat. Differentiation: The clinical application of this formula must be differentiated from Gui Zhi plus Ge Gen Tang, Ma Huang Tang, Gui Zhi Tang, Hemp Huang and Phyllanthus Fine Pine Tang, Huang Qin Tang, Ge Gen Scutellaria Tang, etc. 1, Gui Zhi plus Ge Gen Tang: mainly for solar stroke with diarrhea, shoulder and back contracture pain, the main point of differentiation is that this formula must have sweating, while the evidence of Ge Gen Tang is no sweating. The patient’s physique is weaker than that of Ge Gen. The patient with Ge Gen Tang evidence is healthy and has strong muscles, while this formula applies to a physique similar to that of Gui Zhi Tang evidence. 2. Ephedra Tang: Fever, headache, cold, no sweating, contracture pain in the neck, shoulder and back are similar, but the contracture pain in the neck, shoulder and back is more prominent in Ge Gen Tang, while the fever and asthma are more prominent in Ephedra Tang. 3. Regardless of how the evidence of the disease, can be treated with this formula. The “Golden Killing” called “just spasms”: “sun disease without sweat, urine, gas on the chest, mouth silence, want to make just spasms, Ge Gen Tang is the main.” 16, Urticaria: This formula is used for patients with fever, headache, chills, no sweating, contracture of the neck, shoulders and back, etc. in the early stage of urticaria. 17, cervical spondylosis: This formula is a good treatment for cervical spondylosis, not necessarily limited to the presence or absence of fever, chills, sweat, can use this formula plus or minus, sweating and fear of cold, minus ephedra, plus fenugreek; with dampness, plus atractylodes. It can be seen that the scope of application of this formula is extremely wide. It can be used not only for acute febrile diseases but also for various miscellaneous diseases without fever. Acute febrile diseases mainly include: cold, influenza, intestinal typhoid, pneumonia, bronchitis, measles, meningitis, lymphadenitis, tonsillitis, rhinitis (sinus), boils and carbuncles, mastitis, urticaria, otitis media, conjunctivitis, keratitis, eczema, etc. The clinical basis is fever, headache, chills, no sweating, contracture pain in the neck, shoulder and back, and floating and strong pulse.
