Stop taking azithromycin for a few days

The method of azithromycin administration should be determined by the patient’s condition and cannot be generalized. In general, the treatment can be chosen by taking it for 5 days and stopping it for 2-3 days. Azithromycin is mainly used to treat bacterial infections caused by sensitive bacteria, such as Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections. Due to the post-antibiotic effect of azithromycin, the efficacy remains after discontinuation of the drug. In clinical use, patients are generally advised that they can take the drug for 5 days and then discontinue it for 2-3 days. If the patient’s symptoms are relieved, but not disappeared, he can follow the medical advice and then take oral azithromycin treatment. However, if after taking it for 5 days, the patient’s symptoms do not show significant relief, or even remain progressively worse, it is recommended to consider adjusting the medication. Azithromycin may have some stomach irritation when taken orally, causing loss of appetite and stomach pain.
