What does gynecological ultrasound check for?

Ultrasound in gynecology is mainly used to obtain images of the uterus and its adnexal area in the pelvis to analyze and assist in the diagnosis of diseases related to the uterus and adnexal area, and can detect a wide range of diseases. First of all, there are general abnormalities of the uterus and ovaries, such as increase or decrease in the size of the uterus or ovaries; diseases of the uterus and ovaries, such as uterine fibroids, adenomyosis, diseases of the uterine lining (endometrial polyps, calcification of the lining, accumulation of blood and pus in the uterine cavity, and cancer of the uterine lining, etc.), and diseases of the cervix (cervical fibroids). , cervical diseases (cervical fibroids, cervical cancer, etc.) As well as diseases of the adnexal region (ovarian cysts, plasma and mucus tumors as well as malignant lymphoma, teratoma, various benign and malignant tumors of the ovary and tubal fluid, inflammatory changes, etc.), pelvic fluid, pelvic varicose veins and other diseases of the pelvis. Gynecological ultrasound is only an auxiliary examination that can detect various types of lumps and abnormalities, but there is no way to determine the nature of the lumps detected. Experienced ultrasound doctors can make general inferences based on the results of the examination, but the gold standard for disease is not ultrasound, especially when certain masses have signs of malignant tumors, further examination should be recommended.
