Functional exercise after shoulder SLAP, BANKART injury
Strictly wear a shoulder brace for 6 weeks after surgery to facilitate the healing of tendon tissue and bone surface.
From the first day after surgery, fist clenching and passive flexion and extension of the elbow joint can be performed.
After 1 week postoperatively, a small range of passive shoulder joint activities is feasible to prevent joint stiffness, 20-30 degrees is appropriate; for patients with subscapularis injury, external rotation and supination extension of the shoulder joint are not feasible within 6 weeks, Wang Hong, Department of Orthopedics, Wuhan Union Hospital
After 6 weeks, the patient can gradually start to perform functional exercises for external rotation of the shoulder joint as long as it is tolerated, and it is also feasible for the patient to perform supination extension activities.
After 12 weeks, supination extension is possible
After 6 months, it is possible to perform general functional activities of the shoulder joint in all directions and appropriate resistance exercises.
After one year, it is possible to perform competitive sports activities.
Postoperative functional exercises for rotator cuff injury
Passive rotational activities of the affected limb can be carried out immediately after surgery. To minimize the pressure of the exercise on the repaired part, no overhead movement of the affected limb should be performed within 6 weeks after surgery.
§After 6 weeks, the suspension belt is removed and passive extension of the affected limb over the head is started, either in the supine position with flexion extension or in the sitting position with the use of a rope and pulley. Internal rotation stretching exercises can also be started.
§ Muscle strengthening exercises including rotator cuff, deltoid, biceps and related muscles for scapular stabilization are started at 12 weeks postoperatively.
§ Active activities can be started as soon as the strength of the affected limb allows. However, sports that require acceleration of the shoulder joint angle, such as overhead lifting of the affected limb (tennis, baseball, golf, etc.), should not be performed for 6 months postoperatively.
