How do I survive a depressive episode?

Staying hard during a depressive episode is not recommended and the patient should be seen by a doctor as soon as possible under close family observation and protection.
During a major depressive episode, the patient may manifest painful, self-injurious and suicidal thoughts and behaviours, not eating or drinking, not talking, or even frequent negative thoughts and behaviours, which can seriously damage physical and mental health and therefore immediate medical attention and, if necessary, hospitalisation is recommended.
The patient’s symptoms, age, physical condition, tolerance to medication, and the presence of comorbidities are usually individualised and often combined with psychological treatment, such as supportive psychotherapy, cognitive therapy, behavioural therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy and, if necessary, electroconvulsive therapy.
