What is the cause of white lips in babies?

White lips in babies should be taken seriously and are commonly associated with anaemia in infants. These babies also often suffer from chronic fatigue, anorexia, pallor and poor sleep, mostly related to inadequate breast milk, untimely addition of complementary foods or inappropriate types of foods. The affected child develops iron deficiency anemia causing white lips due to insufficient iron intake.
If malnutrition and anaemia are ruled out, the presence of congenital heart disease, which causes insufficient blood supply due to blood shunting, should also be considered, leading to pale lips. In the case of a newborn with pale lips, you also need to be alert to neonatal asphyxia, which should be attended to by a doctor as soon as possible.
