How to treat tonsillar suppuration

Most tonsillar suppuration is due to bacterial infection, viral infection or a combination of bacterial and viral infections. The main treatment is anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and symptomatic treatment. The common triggering factors for tonsillar abscess are cold and flu, long-term heavy smoking and drinking, eating a lot of spicy and irritating food, and irregular life with long late nights and heavy pollution in the work environment. For bacterial infections, most of them are treated with antibiotics, preferably penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics, such as amoxicillin, cefuroxime, cefdinir, etc. If the infection is caused by a virus, oral antiviral drugs should be taken, such as antiviral oral solution, vitamin C silver warp tablets, etc. If the infection is a mixture of bacteria and virus, all the above drugs should be taken orally. If the patient has obvious symptoms of high fever, malaise and other general discomfort, he or she can take an appropriate amount of oral antipyretic and analgesic drugs as well as glucocorticoid drugs. If the patient does not improve significantly after three days of oral medication, intravenous infusion therapy should be used. If there is still no improvement, it is necessary to check the blood routine, culture of tonsillar secretion and drug sensitivity, and then treat the symptoms according to the test results. (For specific medication, please refer to the doctor’s guidance in the clinical setting)
