The difference between infantile tilt neck and tilted head mainly includes clinical manifestations, causes and treatments.
1. Clinical manifestations: the direction of tilted head of infants is not fixed, can be tilted to both sides and there is no change in the face and neck. In the case of cervical tilt, there is a mass in the sternocleidomastoid muscle on one side, the position is fixed, the lower jaw is turned to the healthy side, and the side of the patient is short and flat, while the healthy side is long and round.
2. Causes: Infants with tilted heads may be young, with an underdeveloped neck or lack of calcium. Cervical tilt is currently supported by many scholars as a result of birth injury or poor intrauterine position causing local ischemia, in addition to intrauterine and extrauterine infections and arterial and venous embolism.
3. Treatment: For infants and young children with tilted head, it can be improved with the growth of neck strength with age or timely supplementation of calcium.
The treatment of cervical tilt can be categorized as surgical or non-surgical.
Non-surgical treatments are suitable for infants up to 1 year old, such as localized hot compresses, massage and surgical correction.
For surgical treatment, the best surgical method for 1 to 4 years old is sternocleidomastoid myotomy. For those who are older than 4 years old, the upper and lower sternocleidomastoid muscles can be cut and released.
