There are passive and active exercises for post-surgical rehabilitation after trapezius surgery, which should be carried out when the patient’s whole body muscles are relaxed.
1. Passive exercise: the patient sits in a sitting position, with the back close to the back of the chair. It is best to place a mirror in front of the patient, with legs slightly outstretched and hands resting lightly on the thighs. Family members or rehabilitation therapists stand behind the patient, hands gently placed on the patient’s bilateral temporal, the head as far as possible to the healthy side of the movement or placed in a neutral position, to maintain this posture, until the patient can not tolerate it, 3 to 5 times a day.
2. Active exercise: the patient stands in front of the mirror, relying on the strength of his head and neck muscles to try to put his head in the neutral position and rotate his head from side to side, and flex and extend his head from front to back, 3 to 5 times a day, until the patient is unable to tolerate it.
The above exercises can be gradually increased with the deepening of the degree of exercise, and the angle of movement of the patient’s head to the healthy side can be gradually increased until the patient can independently control the head in the center position.
It is recommended that the patient carry out the exercise under the guidance of a doctor in order to prevent physical injury caused by improper self-exercise.
