How to recognize and use fluoride toothpaste?

1.After more than half a century of scientific research and long-term use by billions of people, there is sufficient evidence to prove the safety of using fluoride toothpaste and its effectiveness in preventing tooth decay. Using fluoride toothpaste can reduce tooth decay of permanent teeth by 23%-24%, that is to say, people who use fluoride toothpaste have one-fourth less caries than those who do not use fluoride toothpaste. It is also clear that there is no direct evidence that using fluoride toothpaste to brush teeth will produce dental fluorosis (enamel plaque teeth). 2.For children aged 3-6 years old, it is safe to use a moderate amount of fluoride toothpaste (the size of a soybean in each dosage) under the proper guidance of adults. In both adults and children, whether in high or low fluoride areas, there are no safety problems when fluoride toothpaste is used in moderate amounts to expose the mouth to fluoride locally, rather than swallowing it. The risk of fluoride toothpaste exists only if the toothpaste is often swallowed by children. 3. In China, about 3% of the population suffers from dental fluorosis and 0.2% from bone fluorosis, mostly in rural areas, mainly due to long-term consumption of high fluoride water (drinking water type) and indoor air pollution caused by burning high fluoride coal (soot pollution type), not related to the use of fluoride toothpaste. In view of this, experts at the meeting agreed that using fluoride toothpaste is a safe, effective and economical way to prevent dental caries. We advocate to let the public use fluoride toothpaste with confidence and further promote the use of fluoride toothpaste to jointly promote the oral health of our people.
