Ankle avulsion fractures are sometimes not very painful, but if they are not taken seriously because they are minor they can lead to long-lasting sequelae. Small avulsion fractures also require plaster fixation to speed up healing and reduce the incidence of sequelae, and if the avulsion fracture is large it may require surgery to reposition and fix the fracture.
