Is a major depressive state depression?

A major depressive state is not necessarily depression.
Depression, also known as a depressive episode, is also one of the major mental disorders. Depressive states are not as severe as depression in terms of severity and functional impairment. In addition, depressive states can also be a depressive manifestation of other illnesses, such as somatic illnesses and organic brain disorders, and are not necessarily depressive disorders.
