What is a painless delivery? What are the benefits?

Every mother-to-be has heard, at one time or another, from her mother or sisters and friends about the horrors of labor pains, so a safe and comfortable delivery is especially important. As a “humanized service”, painless delivery technology allows you to experience a safe, comfortable and meaningful delivery with the help of anesthesiologists, obstetricians, midwives and family members. What is “painless childbirth”? A painless birth is actually an anesthetic technique used to provide analgesia to the mother. “Analgesia in childbirth” originated in foreign countries and has a history of more than 100 years, with the rate of analgesia in childbirth in the United States > 85% and in the United Kingdom > 90%. At present, large hospitals in China have started to apply labor analgesia technology in clinical practice, and the medical level is in line with international standards. This technology can keep you awake all the time, you can eat and drink, walk freely on the floor, and also enable you to maintain normal labor force without pain. Because of the high safety of the new local anesthetic drug – ropivacaine to human body and the application of patient-controlled analgesia technology, the amount of drug injected into your body is far less than the dose of anesthesia for cesarean section, and the amount of drug passing through the fetus is minimal, so there is no adverse effect on the fetus. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Committee on Analgesia in Childbirth points out that childbirth causes severe pain for many women, which is often ignored as a “normal process” and the experience of severe pain in labor should be taken seriously. A large number of clinical studies have found that severe pain during labor is not beneficial to mother and child, except for helping obstetricians to judge the degree of progress, and the resulting series of pathological and physiological changes can lead to anxiety, fear, uncooperativeness, increased oxygen consumption, hyperventilation, tachycardia, increased blood pressure, etc.; it can also lead to fetal oxygen reduction and acidosis. Because of the fear of severe labor pain, many women often ask to choose cesarean section as the preferred method of delivery, which is actually due to insufficient knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of cesarean section. Cesarean section is usually a remedial measure due to the obstetric pathology of the patient, it is after all a kind of surgery and an artificial unnatural way of delivery, which increases the chances of intestinal adhesions, adnexal inflammation, wound infection and endometriosis for the mother; for the newborn, due to the lack of extrusion of the fetal head from the vaginal wall and the lack of gradual adaptation to the external environment, it may For newborns, the lack of compression of the vaginal wall and the lack of gradual adaptation to the external environment may increase the chance of intracranial hemorrhage in newborns, and is detrimental to their respiratory function. In developed countries such as Britain and the United States, the proportion of cesarean delivery is less than 20%, but in China, the proportion of cesarean delivery is as high as 50%, and in some hospitals, the proportion of cesarean delivery is as high as 80%, which is very abnormal. It should be said that the low cesarean rate in Europe and the United States is inseparable from their widely used labor analgesia technology. Choosing natural childbirth is the same as choosing to add to the health of yourself and your child. This choice is in the hands of the “mothers-to-be”! Common questions about painless childbirth 1.When should I apply for labor analgesia? When you are in labor and enter the delivery room, you can apply to the nurse or your doctor, who will help you choose the best time for labor analgesia and contact the anesthesiologist to provide you with analgesia. 2.Does labor analgesia last until the birth of the baby? Yes. It can meet the need of analgesia during the whole labor. 3.Is painless delivery harmful to the fetus? No, it is not. Painless delivery is carried out under the premise of ensuring the safety of the mother and the fetus. The dose of anesthesia required for a painless delivery is 1/10th of the dose required for a cesarean section or less, so the risk of anesthesia is also much less than that of a cesarean section. In addition, since the amount of ropivacaine that passes through the placenta is minimal, there is no effect on the fetus. 4. Is it possible to change the mode of delivery to cesarean section in a painless delivery? The change of natural birth to cesarean section is not necessarily related to whether or not to have a painless delivery, it depends on many conditions such as the fetus and the mother. Some of these factors will only become apparent during labor and delivery. If a cesarean section is needed during labor analgesia, there is no need to perform another anesthesia puncture operation, saving the preparation time before the procedure.
