When is it better to operate for atrial septal defect?

Patient: 9-month-old pediatric ultrasonography showed: 1. The right heart was slightly larger. The remaining atrial and ventricular cavities are normal in size. 2. The echogenic interruptions in the middle and upper part of the atrial loft are about 0.5 cm and 0.2 cm respectively, and a small amount of red bundles can be seen locally from the left atrial defect into the right atrium: the septal echogenicity is continuous. The valves were not thickened and opened normally. A few blue regurgitant bundles were seen in the left and right atria during systole, and the remaining valves were closed normally. 4. The relationship between the aorta and the main pulmonary artery is normal, and there is no abnormal channel between the main pulmonary arteries. Do you need surgery? Li Hongxin, Department of Cardiac Surgery, Shandong Provincial Hospital: If the ultrasound diagnosis is accurate, such a small atrial defect can be ignored for a while and reviewed after 1 year.
