Do I need to implant an IOL after traumatic cataract surgery?

After the cataract is removed, glasses can restore normal vision, but the difference between the image size and the normal eye is so great that the glasses cannot be worn. Although corneal contact lenses can solve the problem of aberration, long-term use can cause changes in the normal tissue structure of the cornea, and corneal inflammation and corneal ulcers can occur in serious cases. Therefore, it is most beneficial to choose IOL implantation for vision correction after traumatic cataract surgery. However, not all traumatic cataracts can be implanted with IOLs in one stage. For those who have severe damage to the cornea, iris, choroid, vitreoretinal and other intraocular tissues after trauma, and those who have severe inflammatory reactions in the eye, IOL implantation should not be reluctantly done at the same time. After the eye condition has stabilized and the corrected visual acuity has improved, IOLs will be implanted in the second phase. Many scholars in China are cautious about IOL implantation after trauma in children, but for older children, due to more mature eye development and significantly improved repair and tolerance abilities, IOL implantation can be actively tried according to the specific eye conditions.
