It may be because the patient already had gum recession and exposed tooth roots, but there was no tooth soreness before scaling because the exposed roots were covered by calculus, which blocked external stimuli. However, when the teeth are scaled to remove the calculus, the roots are exposed and tooth soreness can be noticed when the teeth are stimulated by mechanical stimulation, hot and cold stimulation, acid, etc.
Scaling is an effective way of treating and preventing gum recession. If calculus is allowed to continue to press and stimulate, it will lead to more serious gum recession and may even lead to loosening and loss of teeth. The soreness will disappear on its own in about one to two weeks after the scaling, and patients with severe symptoms can use desensitising toothpaste to relieve the symptoms.
