The most common pathological factor causing odour from the navel is mainly umbilicitis, followed by eczema or sweat rash of the navel fossa, congenital umbilical ureteral diseases such as unclosed umbilical ureter, cysts and fistulas. Allergies, skin lesions, inflammation and oozing may also lead to odour due to body differences or improper use of navel patches.
