Cost of atrial septal defect surgery

Surgery for atrial septal defects is divided into conventional open-heart surgery and percutaneous interventional occlusion, and the costs of the two procedures are different. Conventional open-chest surgery is suitable for patients with atrial septal defects located in special areas where sealing is generally not possible and open-chest surgery is required; patients with atrial septal defects near the heart and other important structures where the sealing process may damage other tissues and require open-chest surgery under direct vision. The total cost of open-heart surgery is about $40,000 to $50,000, including the cost of preoperative examination, surgery and postoperative treatment. Percutaneous interventional blocking surgery is: open-chest surgery for atrial septal defect is now gradually decreasing in application and generally minimally invasive or blocking surgery is adopted. This method does not require extracorporeal circulation, is less invasive, and is suitable for patients with secondary foramen ovale type and suitable size and location of atrial septal defect. The cost varies depending on the size of the occluder. The total cost of conventional blocker treatment is about $30,000; the total cost of ceramic umbrella blocker treatment is about $45,000; the cost of imported blocker treatment is almost $48,000-$50,000. Although there is a difference in the cost of surgery, it is recommended to give priority to the need of the condition as the premise for choosing the surgical method.
