Baby jaundice family self-test method

Family self-assessment of baby jaundice is mainly done by the family members visually, and the degree of jaundice is initially assessed according to the location, area and color of the baby’s jaundice, which can be classified as mild, moderate or severe. The order of development of jaundice in babies generally starts from top to bottom, starting from the head and face and gradually progressing to the chest and back, the extremities, and in severe cases, throughout the body. In mild jaundice, the jaundice is limited to the head and face; in moderate jaundice, it develops to the chest and back and abdomen; in severe jaundice, it develops below the knees and even to the feet. Severe jaundice requires prompt hospitalization. It is recommended that babies with jaundice should be seen in the hospital promptly. Doctors can clarify the degree of jaundice in babies by means of a transcutaneous jaundice tester and blood tests.
