What is commonly referred to as “painless childbirth” is medically called “labor analgesia”, which is the use of various methods to reduce or even eliminate the pain of childbirth. Labor analgesia can help mothers to stop experiencing pain and reduce fear during labor and fatigue after delivery. The ideal method of analgesia for labor and delivery is to use intradural block, which is a low concentration of anesthesia and highly controllable, and hardly affects the mother’s activities. And it usually has little effect on the fetus. Indications: Intradural block is suitable for a wide range of people, especially for first-time mothers who are especially afraid of pain and for mothers with combined gestational hypertension syndrome. However, the obstetrician and anesthesiologist must check carefully before knowing whether you can use this kind of labor analgesia. Advantages: 1) Enhanced uterine contractions; 2) Reduced frequency of uterine contractions; 3) Increased uterine activity; 4) Reduced labor pain; 5) Shortened first stage of labor; 6) Reduced incidence of fetal heart rate abnormalities; 7) Helped to improve Apgar score of the newborn; 8) Reduced use of contraction-enhancing measures (such as oxytocin drip); 9) Reduced rate of instrumental delivery; 10) Maternal satisfaction, and helped to urinate spontaneously. Although intrathecal block is suitable for a wide range of people, it should not be used for people who have contraindications to vaginal delivery and intrathecal anesthesia.
