Is partial laryngectomy epiglottoplasty effective?

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the feasibility and surgical method of epiglottic laryngoplasty. METHODS: Thirty-two cases of laryngoplasty using epiglottis cartilage were performed after partial laryngectomy. Results: After complete resection of laryngeal cancer, the anterior or lateral anterior wall of the remaining laryngeal cavity was repaired by lowering the epiglottis, and the patients regained all or part of the laryngeal function (voice, swallowing protection) and preserved the function of the epiglottis in whole or in part. The survival rates at 3 and 5 years were 87.5% and 76%, respectively, and the success rate of phonation was 100%. CONCLUSION: The epiglottis is one of the ideal repair materials for partial laryngectomy laryngoplasty.
