How to choose treatment for auditory neuroma

Auditory neuroma actually originates from the vestibular nerve, and as the tumor increases in size, it can involve the facial and sural nerves. When the tumor is small, such as less than 1 cm in diameter, follow-up may be an option without any treatment; however, when the tumor is large, appropriate treatment should be given: gamma knife treatment may be an option for those who are old, frail, or patients who are extremely afraid of surgery; surgery should be an option in general. Although the surgery is a medium-sized surgery, there is almost no mortality in experienced surgeons and the anatomical preservation rate of facial nerve can reach more than 90%. Most of the patients operated by the author were large tumors, with tumor size above 3 cm, and the anatomical preservation rate of the facial nerve could reach 85-90%. There were no cases of surgical death.
