How often to breastfeed

For newborns, it is recommended to breastfeed on demand. After 1-2 months, you can gradually develop a breastfeeding routine, feeding once every 2-3 hours at first; for children over 3 months, you can feed them once every 3-4 hours for 15-20 minutes; after 6 months, you can change to once every 5 hours, and try not to breastfeed at night. If your child is newborn and growing fast, follow the principle of feeding on demand and feed him/her when he/she is hungry. After 1-2 months, you can cultivate the habit of feeding on time, with an interval of 2-3 hours, for example, once in the morning at 8:00, 10:00 and 12:00. After 3 months, the interval between feedings can be extended to 3-4 hours, with each feeding lasting 15-20 minutes. After 6 months of age, the interval can be extended to 5 hours as the number of feedings decreases due to the addition of complementary foods. When breastfeeding, parents should be careful not to leave the child in a constant state of hunger and not to be overfull, as moderate feeding will make the child’s stomach and intestines develop better.
