According to the textbook of Formulas, the dosage of drugs in Fangji Huangqi Tang is 6g of licorice, 15g of astragalus, 12g of Fangji, and 9g of atractylodes.
Fangji Huangqi Tang is from “The Essentials of the Golden Chamber”, which has the efficacy of dispelling wind and benefiting qi, inducing diuresis and strengthening the spleen, and can be used for wind and water (sudden edema of the head, face and limbs) or rheumatism with deficiency of the epidermis, which is characterized by heaviness or swelling of the body, sweating out of the evil wind, dysuria (unruly urination), and pain in the limbs and joints.
In this formula, Fang Ji dispels wind and prevents dampness to relieve pain; Astragalus benefits qi, strengthens the surface and induces diuresis; Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae replenishes qi, strengthens the spleen and dispels dampness; Ginger helps to dispel wind and dampness; ginger and jujube are added to regulate the camping and defense; Glycyrrhiza glabra benefits qi and neutralizes the middle (replenishes qi, regulates the spleen and stomach), and regulates the medicines (regulates the properties of different traditional Chinese medicines).
