Alcohol wipes, cold compresses and warm water baths are not recommended now to cool the body. Physical methods such as reducing clothing and lowering the ambient temperature appropriately can be used to cool the body, with attention to hydration. Oral antipyretics are recommended for children with a temperature above 38.5 degrees, where physical cooling is not effective, or where there are significant signs of discomfort due to the fever, or where there is poor mental status.
