H. pylori itself does not cause abdominal pain, but the range of diseases it causes can lead to abdominal pain. H. pylori can survive in a strong acidic environment and is the only bacteria that can survive in the stomach. H. pylori can cause damage to the gastric mucosa, leading to erosive gastritis, gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, and can even induce gastric cancer, among other things. Helicobacter pylori causes erosive gastritis, which can lead to discomfort such as pain and bloating in the upper abdomen. If it leads to gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, it can cause chronic, periodic, rhythmic upper abdominal pain. Gastric ulcers are predominantly painful after meals, and duodenal ulcers are predominantly painful with hunger, so H. pylori infection of the body can lead to a range of disorders that can cause abdominal pain. If a positive H. pylori is found on physical examination, standard anti-H. pylori treatment should be administered.
