What does pestle mean?

Pestle finger is a specific clinical sign when performing a physical examination, manifested by enlargement of the fingers of the extremities, including the ends of the toes, like a drumstick. The occurrence of pestle finger is strongly related to respiratory diseases, commonly seen in idiopathic interstitial lung fibrosis, bronchiectasis, lung cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Most of the pestle finger occurrence is related to chronic hypoxia, because after hypoxia, the limb endings, will compensate for hypertrophy and hyperplasia, so it leads to the end expansion to form a drumstick shape. If you see pestle finger formation, you should first consider the three types of diseases mentioned above, and screen accordingly.
