What are the effects of Mycoplasma on fertility?

Mycoplasma is categorized into several subtypes, of which Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae and Mycoplasma hominis are the most closely related to human reproduction. Because Mycoplasma obtains lipids and cholesterol from host cells mainly through adhesion, and produces toxic effects on host cells through ammonia production, Mycoplasma can act in such a way as to cause prostatitis in men. Therefore, when Mycoplasma invades the human body, it will act in such a way to cause inflammation of the reproductive tract such as prostatitis, seminal vesicle and epididymitis in males and cervicitis, endometritis and salpingitis in females, resulting in adhesion and impassability of the reproductive tract. The movement of sperm or fertilized egg is blocked and normal conception or ectopic pregnancy in women is not possible. When the woman becomes pregnant, the presence of mycoplasma will interfere with the normal development of the fertilized egg, causing diseases such as embryonic dysplasia, malformation, miscarriage, preterm delivery or low birth weight. To summarize, it is recommended that couples who are preparing for childbearing get tested for mycoplasma and chlamydia to have a healthy baby.
