Many people are obsessed with “secondary development” because they miss the “golden period” of growth and development.
In fact, after birth, people will face two developmental peaks, one in early childhood and one in adolescence.
Therefore, adolescent development, also known as secondary development (between the ages of 10 and 16), is an important period of transition from childhood to sexual maturity, the last stage of childhood development, and the second peak of human growth and development. It is the last stage of child development and the second peak of human growth and development. It is also characterized by the rapid development of sexual organs and secondary sexual characteristics and the acceleration of physical development.
Adolescence is the “golden period” of secondary development
The secondary development of girls mostly occurs between the ages of 10 and 14. In addition to accelerated growth and physical enhancement, there is also the development of the reproductive system, mainly in the form of breast development and the onset of menstruation.
The average length of puberty for girls is 4.7 years, with a total height growth of 20-25 cm, of which about 1 year is the rapid growth period, with an annual growth rate of nearly 10 cm. after the onset of menarche, the growth rate decreases sharply, and the growth continues for a total of 4-8 cm. girls generally do not grow taller after two years of menarche. Some girls may also not have a rapid growth period.
Most girls begin to develop breasts at age 9 to 10; pubic hair appears at age 11; nipples and areolas continue to increase in size at age 12 to 13. Pubic hair continues to increase, from fine to thick, with gradual pigmentation; after the age of 13 (some girls will be earlier), menstruation begins, but is generally not yet regular. At the same time as or later than menarche, axillary hair appears, and pubic hair takes on a feminine inverted triangular shape. The glands in the areola area develop and a second bulge forms on the already full and enlarged breasts.
Secondary development in boys occurs mostly between the ages of 11 and 16. In addition to accelerated growth and physical enhancement, there are also changes in the reproductive system, mainly in the form of prominent laryngeal nodes, thickening of the voice, enlarged testicles, seminal emission, and beard development.
Usually, the average length of puberty for boys is 4.9 years, with a total height growth of about 25-30 cm, of which, about 1.5 years in the middle of puberty is a rapid growth period, with an annual growth rate of more than 10 cm, after which the growth rate decreases sharply until it stops growing completely. When a boy’s beard appears on his jaw, he will generally stop growing taller.
Therefore, it is crucial to seize the “golden period” of secondary development. If you miss this period, there is a good chance that there will be no re-growth. If there is a delay in development during puberty, such as when a girl is 15 or a boy is 16, and there is a delay in the development of secondary sexual characteristics or abnormal development, it is important to seek medical attention to see if there is a nutritional deficiency or a disease that must be taken seriously!
It is important to note that the early development of secondary sexual characteristics is not a good thing. In girls, secondary sexual characteristics appear before the age of 8 or the first menstruation before the age of 10; in boys, secondary sexual characteristics appear before the age of 9 and are accompanied by excessive physical development, which is called precocious puberty.
