It may be related to age-related macular disciform degeneration, which is more prevalent in the elderly and is often associated with atherosclerosis. Typical symptoms are loss of vision, blurred vision and sequential involvement of both eyes, which can lead to blindness in severe cases. In addition, some age-related posterior vitreous detachments can cause bleeding in the fundus. Prompt medical examination and treatment is recommended.
