If a patient has a sore throat and fever, it is recommended to give medication according to the cause. If the sore throat and fever are caused by bacterial infection, oral treatment with broad-spectrum antibiotics is recommended. If the patient’s temperature exceeds 38°C and the pain is severe, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen can be given symptomatically to relieve fever and analgesia. If the fever is due to viral infection as well as red and swollen throat, broad-spectrum antiviral drugs can be given for treatment. In case of sore throat and fever due to mycoplasma and chlamydia, oral macrolide antibiotics can be given for treatment. In addition, patients with fever and sore throat are advised to take more rest and drink more water during life to avoid excessive exertion and cold to promote recovery from the disease.
