In mild cases of acute alcoholic encephalopathy, it is recommended to drink more water and rest for a period of time, and most of them can return to normal in a few days without special treatment.
In severe cases, it is necessary to go to the hospital for emesis, gastric lavage, maintenance of vital signs and metabolic enhancement treatment. Chronic alcoholic encephalopathy is caused by a combination of factors such as metabolic disorders in the brain caused by long-term, excessive alcohol consumption and direct damage to brain tissue, so early detection and early professional treatment using a comprehensive approach are required.
The prognosis varies with the degree of brain tissue damage. Some chronic alcoholic encephalopathy with mild brain tissue damage can be cured. If the damage only involves brain function, such as Wernicke’s encephalopathy, eye movement disorder, ataxia and mental disorder have some recovery ability, but memory damage is more difficult to recover. If alcoholic encephalopathy progresses further, such as Korsakoff syndrome, alcoholic dementia is difficult to reverse.
For chronic alcoholic encephalopathy caused by long-term alcohol consumption, the most important method in the early stage is still abstinence from alcohol. After 2~3 months of abstinence, the disease will improve, and a professional doctor needs to be consulted for individualized treatment and regular follow-up according to the specific situation.
