How can joint effusion be treated?

Patients with joint effusion should first ensure rest and avoid repetitive movement of the effused joint. After assessing the patient’s condition, the doctor will often treat the patient with antipyretic and analgesic medication to reduce joint pain. If there is a large amount of fluid, arthrocentesis may be required to remove the fluid. Joint effusion caused by some diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and gouty arthritis, will require treatment for these diseases.
