What’s wrong with red eyes and sticky discharge?

Red eyes with sticky discharge are likely to be suffering from acute conjunctivitis. Acute conjunctivitis is a contagious disease, and contact with the discharge from the affected eye can cause contagion to healthy eyes or to others. The first step is to wipe the discharge with a clean cotton swab moistened with saline, and after the discharge is wiped clean, apply antiviral and anti-inflammatory eye drops locally. If symptoms such as foreign body sensation in the eye and photophobia occur, eye drops that protect the corneal epithelium can also be used. Eye drops must be applied more frequently, at least 5 times a day, with an interval of 5 minutes between drops; pay attention to the cleanliness of the hands and do not rub the eyes with dirty hands; pay attention to the disinfection and isolation of objects used by the patient’s eyes so as not to infect others.
