Conservative and surgical treatment are two completely different types of treatment and the doctor will choose the most appropriate treatment for the patient depending on their condition. It is important to note, however, that regardless of the treatment modality, restoring stability to the knee is the goal of treatment and the risk of complications such as meniscal damage, articular cartilage damage and knee osteoarthritis is higher following a posterior cruciate ligament injury. There are no studies to confirm which treatment modality has a lower risk of complications.
