Pulmonary hypertension is not necessarily terminal. For advanced stages of pulmonary hypertension, which tend to cause severe right heart failure, there are few treatment options, and eventually a combined heart-lung transplant is feasible. At this point it is not a terminal disease, so there is no need to grieve. For early stages of pulmonary hypertension, treatment is needed for the primary disease. For chronic thromboembolic disease causing pulmonary hypertension, surgical treatment, such as pulmonary artery dilation and balloon angioplasty, can be performed to improve the pulmonary hypertension. In addition, for secondary pulmonary hypertension due to left heart function diseases such as left heart insufficiency, treatment for the related diseases is required. For pulmonary hypertension, related medications can be given, which are more expensive to treat, such as sildenafil and other drugs, but can improve the patient’s symptoms.
